Halloween is coming and it’s time for scary movies! Zombies, chainsaw wielding crazies and demons are great for adults, but let’s talk about some family-friendly Halloween movies. Below are six of some of the best family-friendly Halloween movies out there.


Halloween Town (1998). This is the story of three siblings as they find out their grandmother is a witch and lives in Halloween Town. Adventure ensues as they try to restore Halloween Town from the evil that’s overtaken it. Rated TV-G, this is a great family classic to watch over and over.

Hocus Pocus (1993). A teen tries to impress the girl of his dreams and accidentally brings three crazy witches back to life. Rated PG and with a great cast including Bette Midler and Sarah Jessica Parker, this movie will bring laughs and Halloween spirit to adults and kids alike.

Monster House (2006). You know that scary house in every neighborhood-the one this kids say is haunted? Well in this animated movie not only is the house haunted, but it’s alive. Follow along as three teens try to protect the neighborhood from the monster house. Rated PG, it could be a little scary for younger viewers, as the kids are in “constant peril.”

Spooky Buddies (2011). There’s a “Buddy” movie for everything, and Halloween is no exception. The five friends go far across town to a mysterious mansion where something very spooky is going on. With the help of some new friends, including a friendly ghost, this exciting, G-rated adventure is great Halloween fun!



The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993). Follow Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King, as he discovers Christmastown and plots to take control. Time Burton gives us a magical glimpse into the world of Halloween we’ve never seen before. This movie is rated PG and may be a bit too scary for young viewers.

Wallace and Gromit. The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005). This is the story of a cheese-loving man and his super-smart dog, Gromit. They are on a quest to save the town gardens from the Were-Rabbit. This movie is rated G and is fun for everyone!

It’s time to snuggle up, pop some popcorn (or break into the Halloween candy early) and watch one, or ALL, of these classics!
